Dodgersclub.com | Los Angeles Dodgers News, dodgers Scores, Game Recaps & Commentary - --INF Pablo Ozuna became the last of the Dodgers' potential free agents to officially file, doing so on Nov. 12. Ozuna probably won't be re-signed because the club has UTs Angel Berroa and Chin-lung Hu under control and possibly Tony Abreu ready to come off the disabled list. Ozuna appeared in just 36 games for the Dodgers and was actually designated for assignment on Aug. 27, only to have his contract purchased on Sept. 5.
--LHP Joe Beimel, one of the most valuable members of the Dodgers' bullpen for the past three seasons, hit the free agent market. His innings fell off dramatically this year, from 67 1/3 in 2007 to 49, and the widespread of availability of left-handed middle relievers might mean Beimel's days with the Dodgers are over. --C Lucas May, the Dodgers' top catching prospect, was struggling with the Surprise Rafters of the Arizona Fall League. Despite a recent five-game stretch in which he went 8-for-22 with three doubles, he was hitting just .200 with a .224 on-base percentage through Nov. 13. May is on the 40-man roster and might have been in line for a September call-up, but he hit just .230 at Class AA Jacksonville and was passed over in favor of non-roster C A.J. Ellis.
--OF Xavier Paul, a 40-man roster player who has yet to make his major league debut, was off to a sizzling start in the Mexican Pacific League. Through 25 games, he was hitting .295 with a .414 on-base percentage, four doubles, four homers and 11 RBIs. He had drawn 17 walks while striking out just 22 times.
--RHP Justin Orenduff, a 40-man roster player who hasn't been to the majors, was having a rough go in the Arizona Fall League. He was 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA in seven starts, having given up a staggering eight home runs in 24 innings. Orenduff gave up 25 home runs for Class AAA Las Vegas this year, sixth most in the Pacific Coast League, while pitching at least 29 fewer innings than any of the five pitchers who gave up more.
BY THE NUMBERS: 8 -- Dodgers players who are eligible for arbitration now that C Russell Martin and OF Andre Ethier have been declared eligible as super-two guys. The list includes both of the pitchers the club used in the closer's role this season, RHPs Jonathan Broxton and Takashi Saito. Saito already was making $2 million and missed most of the second half with an elbow injury, so he could be at risk of being non-tendered.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "I think we have to do business as it comes our way. I think we have to sign players we want to sign as we agree to do deals with them. We have enough areas of need that we can't wait by the side and wait for one person to make up their mind." -- Dodgers GM Ned Colletti on the fact that club officials will proceed with their offseason agenda without waiting for an answer from free agent LF Manny Ramirez.
